Designing learning that works in the real world.
I'm Suzy, an instructional designer and e-learning developer who combines learning design, creativity and practical experience to create engaging, accessible learning experiences.
My background in psychology and adult education shapes how I approach learning design, helping me understand how people learn, think and engage, and turn that into practical, meaningful experiences.

Practice Placement Guidebook
This interactive guidebook is being developed to support paramedic apprentices before, during and after their placements.
The current prototype covers the introductory sections and first placement area. Working closely with SMEs, I’ve focused on creating an accessible and practical learning experience, with interactive text-entry areas for note-taking and recording evidence of learning. Learners will be able to print or download their completed activities to support submission as part of their programme.

ACCESSIBILITY · INTERACTIVE INPUT · EVIDENCE OF LEARNING
Scenario based learning
A portfolio example exploring how storytelling, decision-making and instructional design can create more engaging workplace learning.
The learner is placed in a project where the lead is unavailable and must decide how to respond, with the scenario developing from their choices.
I also built accessibility into the process, testing keyboard navigation, mobile behaviour, browser zoom and screen-reader compatibility, including NVDA. The result is a practical example of how I approach e-learning, accessibility and adult learning.
The Zombie Guide to Passive Writing
RAMP: From brief to completed e-learning
I took the RAMP e-learning project from initial brief through to final publication, working closely with clinical subject matter experts to turn complex content into practical, engaging learning for an operational ambulance workforce.
I made the key instructional and design decisions, developed and refined the prototype with the SMEs, built the finished course, tested it and prepared it for publication.
The package was developed with the potential to become mandatory training across South Western Ambulance Service Foundation Trust (SWASFT) and subsequently support rollout to other UK ambulance services.
A playful portfolio project exploring how storytelling, humour and interactive design can make a traditionally dry subject more memorable.
Using zombies as a running theme, the guide helps learners recognise and tackle passive writing through short explanations, examples and interactive activities, while demonstrating how I use creativity deliberately to support learning rather than simply decorate it.
